The National Organization for Youth Action (ONAJEU) highlighted women and children during a major conference organized on the occasion of International Women’s Rights Day on March 11, 2023. In a conference led by Mr. Daniel Charles, the subject of sexual and sexist violence, along with its post-traumatic consequences, was addressed.
The conference shed light on different forms of violence, such as verbal, physical, sexual, sexist, domestic, psychological violence, indecent assault, financial and sexual exploitation, among others. The causes of violence were also discussed, including low intellectual level, lack of education, unemployment, and the irresponsibility of parents and the Haitian State. The various forms of violence were explained, including moral, physical, psychological, passive, and active violence. The consequences of violence were also highlighted, such as low self-esteem, depression, trauma, suicide, and others.
Harassment, which is repeated verbal, psychological, moral, or physical violence, was also addressed. The conference generated interest among the attending youth, who asked numerous questions to the speaker. The speaker took great care in addressing these questions, making the conference even more engaging.
The ONAJEU staff is committed to combating influences and transforming actors to create a healthy environment free from violence, while involving young people in this essential struggle for our beloved Haiti. ONAJEU’s mission is to save today’s youth to ensure a better tomorrow.
